At Cherrybrook Technology High School, we encourage students to perform a range of music styles across a number of ensembles. The Music Ensemble Program is focused on musical excellence as well as inclusion of talented musicians and enthusiastic learners can enjoy music and reap the academic, emotional and social benefits of co-curricular music.
The choir is a non-auditioned choir and is open to all members of Cherrybrook Technology High School. Currently, the choir consists of approximately 40 vocalists. Students sing varied repertoire, mostly in 3 or 4 parts and perform on numerous occasions throughout the year. They rehearse Tuesday morning at 7:20am.
Junior and Senior Concert Bands
Junior Concert Band involves students of year 7 to 8 and Senior Concert Bands consists of students from Year 9 to 12, with skills ranging from beginner to advanced. Instruments in the concert band include Piccolo, flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, trumpet, french horn, euphonium, trombone, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, tuned percussion (keyboard, xylophone), untuned percussion, drum kit and bass guitar. Junior Concert Band rehearses Monday 7:20am and Senior Concert Band rehearses Friday 7:20am.
The Guitar Ensemble consists of students playing both acoustic and electric guitars. The students in this ensemble develop their skills in reading music, chords, theory and techniques associated to the beginner or advanced guitarist. The Ensemble encourages guitars of all levels to develop their playing style and also have performance opportunities at school. Rehearsals at on Wednesday 7:20am.
This percussion ensemble are for students who play any percussion instrument who wish to extend their skills with performance opportunities. Students perform with a wide variety of instruments including large and small mallet instruments and tuned and untuned percussion. Rehearsals are Tuesday morning 7:20am.
Instrumentalists performing in other Ensembles may also choose to join Big Band. This ensemble is an audition only process. The Big Band are featured at the School Ball, and they perform at many other music events throughout the year. Big Band rehearses Wednesday afternoon, 3 -5pm. This ensemble is also available to hire for events.
String Ensemble takes favourite pop, jazz, movie and classical hits and reworks them into a context of small string ensembles. Students that play violin, viola, cello and double bass are welcome to join. String Ensemble rehearses Thursday morning at 7:20am.
Students involved in the co-curricular Music Program prepare exciting and challenging repertoire and present these at a wide variety of performances. They often perform at School assemblies, external eisteddfods and festivals, community service concerts and whole-school external performances throughout the year.
